2024 Louisville football honored jerseys
As college football season comes to a close, reflection on the Louisville football season arrives. With a win over Clemson, Kentucky, and Washington, Louisville finishes the season at a solid 9-4 record. This season was partially special as two Louisville legends got their jerseys honored in a special homecoming, Harry Douglas and Teddy Bridgewater.
Wide receiver Harry Douglas’s jersey No. 85 was added to the Ring of Honor on September 21st vs Georgia Tech. As one of the top receivers in Louisville history, Douglas ranks second in career receiving yards at UofL with 2,924 yards and his 223 receiving yards in 13 catches against Kentucky in 2007 is a school single-game record. He earned second All-American honors in 2007 and All-Big East first team twice. Douglas helped lead the Cards to victory in their win against Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl and Big East Championship Douglas was drafted in the third round to the Atlanta Falcons and later played for the Tennessee Titans. Douglas now works at ESPN with the Freddie and Harry Radio show, Get Up ESPN, College Gameday, and a UFL analyst.
Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s jersey No. 5 was added to the Ring of Honor on October 19th against Miami. Bridgewater is one of Louisville’s best quarterbacks to come through the program and influenced Lamar Jackson’s decision to play for the Cards. His career completion percentage still holds No. 1 in program history and He also has the most wins as a starting quarterback in Louisville history with 27, and the most top-25 wins as a starting QB with five. He led the Cards to victory in the Sugar Bowl against Florida State. The Minnesota Vikings drafted Bridgewater but didn’t get much of the opportunity he deserved due to injury. He played backup quarterback for several teams before announcing his retirement during his time in Detroit. Bridgewater went on to coach his high school team, Miami Northwestern Senior High School, where he led the team to a state title. Bridgewater then decided to head back to the NFL where is a backup quarterback for the Detroit Lions.
Douglas and Bridgewater are both icons in Louisville football history and are often two names you think of when you think of impactful game-changers. To see the way the city and fanbase have embraced their impact on and off the field has been well deserved. These two players have helped shape this program into what it is today.
