South Carolina win women's national championship
On Sunday, April 7th, the South Carolina Gamecocks took down Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes 87-75 to claim the crown in the National Championship. Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks ended the season on a high note finishing the season with an undefeated record of 38-0. "They made history," Staley told ESPN's Holly Rowe. "They etched their names in the history books when this is the unlikeliest group to do it. Freshman guard Tessa Johnson led the way for the Gamecocks leading the team with 19 points. Center Kamilla Cardosa had an impressive night with 17 rebounds. Cardosa played her last college game and is projected to go 4th overall in the WNBA draft. On the other side of the court, the Iowa Hawkeyes came out swinging, forcing a 10-0 run in the first minutes of the game. Despite a 30-point night for Clark, the Hawkeyes failed to hang on in the second half. This is the third championship for South Carolina.
