Louisville hires Pat Kelsey to coach men's basketball team

In March, Louisville fired men’s head coach Kenny Payne. Payne went 12-52 overall and 3-17 in conference play this past season. While Payne is still respected for his efforts and his contribution to the rich history of Louisville basketball, the fanbase was ready for a change. After the announcement of his firing, big names in the college basketball coaching world started circling around about who would take the job. However, a name that many fans did not expect to take the job was hired. Pat Kelsey was not on anyone’s dream coaching list but after an impressive press conference, Kelsey proved that he has the passion and energy to bring the cardinals back to their glory days. "I expressed to Josh(Heird) that I would run here," Kelsey said. "It's the best job in the United States of America. He knew how bad I wanted it. ... But I was ready when my name was called. I think I've been prepared for that interview my entire life. It's the ultimate job." Kelsey understands the rich history of the program and what basketball means to the city. Kelsey has a big job ahead of him in recruiting  as every scholarship player has entered the transfer portal and Hercy Miller is the only one to remain on the team from the previous roster. Kelsey has already been able to recruit three players in the transfer portal Charlston transfer Reyne Smith who averages 12.8 PPG, Charleston transfer James Scott who averages 5 PPG, and James Madison transfer Terrance Edwards Jr who averages 17.2 PPG and won Sun Belt player of the year. Louisville has a bright future ahead.
